Stars and Stripes
For many Americans, the Stars and Stripes, the Star-Spangled Banner, the symbol of the United States, represents the union of the different states that make up the nation but also the rights guaranteed under the constitution or in a democracy.
The flag is a compelling image which carries a strong and undeniable emotional charge and which is used by many artists to convey its different facets.
While some artists are interested in the graphic quality of the flag, others, more concerned with the symbolic function of its design, distort it or exploit it as is.
