Orson Welles (1915-1985), 100th birthday
Orson Welles (1915-1985), 100th birthday

Orson Welles's work, consisting of some fifteen films, including two that are unfinished, remain amongst the most studied but still have an air of mystery, just like the man.

He was discovered in France following the Liberation of Paris. He praised Pagnol's "The Baker's Wife" and Raimu's performance during the war. It was through Marcel Pagnol, who had become his friend, that he met the film-set photographer Roger Corbeau and decided to appoint him for two films: "Mr. Arkadin" (1955) and "The Trial" (1962).

In 1971, he appeared in "Ten Days' Wonder", directed by Claude Chabrol.
