A presentation of 205 works taking visitors on a unique journey through the history of art. The exhibition opens on 12 December 2012.


For a period of 5 years, the Galerie du Temps in the Louvre-Lens will exhibit a selection of masterpieces from the Louvre Museum in Paris presented in their chronological order. All civilizations and techniques will be represented in this exhibition space, which measures 120 m in length, arranged in sequence from the birth of the written word to the middle of the 19th century, thus spanning the full chronological and geographical range of the Louvre's collections. The Galerie du Temps will be divided up into 3 main periods: 70 works from Antiquity, 45 works from the Middle Ages and 90 works from the Modern Era.
