Alsace and its way of life
Alsace has the smallest surface area of any French region but has a strong identity which combines Germanic culture with traditional folklore. Stories, popular beliefs, arts and crafts, architecture and the artistic and intellectual life attest to a distinctiveness and a regionalism that is still very much alive. With Strasbourg, primarily Alsatian but also the European capital, and thanks to its centuries-long history, its geographical location and an openness to the world, Alsace is a real cultural crossroads.
