Alinari, Picturesque Italy
In Florence in 1852, Leopoldo Alinari, with his brothers Giuseppe and Romualdo, founded a photographic studio, specialising in portraits, photographs of works of art and historical monuments.
Fratelli Alinari is the oldest photographic studio in the world and its archive contain more than four million photographs, from daguerreotypes to modern digital photographs.
As early as 1840, Fratelli Alinari began capturing life in Italy on film, producing portraits and lively street scenes which are now an extremely valuable source of historical record.
