Alinari, Italian Heritage
In Florence in 1852, Leopoldo Alinari, with his brothers Giuseppe and Romualdo, founded a photographic studio, specialising in portraits, photographs of works of art and historical monuments.
Fratelli Alinari is the oldest photographic studio in the world and its archive contains more than four million photographs, from daguerreotypes to modern digital photographs.
The huge collection amassed by the Fratelli Alinari photo archive documents a wide range of Italy's architectural landmarks from archaeological remains to major Italian historical monuments, fixed in time and painstakingly and beautifully composed.
