Victor Baltard
Victor Baltard

Exhibition at the Orsay museum from 16 October to 13 January 2013

Baltard's name evokes a symbolic landmark of the French capital, the Halles de Paris [the central market in Paris], which has now disappeared. Although this extraordinary building, made of glass and metal, was the origin of the architect's fame, he was responsible for creating many other works throughout his career. As the Architect of the City of Paris, he was one of the main contributors to Haussmann's "Nouveau Paris" ["New Paris"]. He also restored numerous churches.
