"At the time of being authorized to practice medicine, I promise and swear to be faithful to the laws of honor and probity.
My foremost concern will be to restore, preserve or promote health in all its aspects, physical and mental, individual and social.
I will respect all individuals, their will and their autonomy, with no discrimination regarding their status or their convictions. I will act to protect them if they are weakened, vulnerable or endangered in their integrity or their dignity. Even under duress, I will not use my knowledge against the laws of humanity. [...] I will provide treatment to the indigent and to anyone who solicits my services. I will not allow myself to be influenced by the desire for profit or glory. Admitted into the private lives of individuals, I will not divulge the secrets entrusted to me. [...] I will do everything to relieve suffering. I will not unnecessarily prolong the pangs of death. I will never deliberately cause death. [...] May men and my colleagues grant me their esteem if I am faithful to my promises; may I be scorned and dishonored if I fail."

Oath of the French Order of Physicians, 1996.
