Cannes, Palmes d'or
Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay: the number of prizes at the Cannes Film Festival has grown, adding to Cannes' prestige. The Grand Prix du Festival, until 1954, and the Palme d'Or which subsequently replaced it, is the ultimate honor, today considered as one of the most prestigious awards in world cinema. The artistic, financial and media stakes involved in winning the Palme d'Or are considerable. Those professionals who have been honoured several times in their career, like Francis Ford Coppola, are rare. In sixty-two Cannes Film Festivals, there have been eight French winners of the Palme d'Or, including Jean Delannoy, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Louis Malle, Jacques Demy and Maurice Pialat.
