Torture and torments

"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment".This is the resolution adopted by the United Nations on 10 December 1948, in Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.Almost sixty years later, torture is still used.Aimed at administering intolerable physical or moral suffering, and capable of leading to death, torture remains the fiercest expression of ideologies and beliefs, and is a political and social tool for dominating mankind.Plastic, graphic and pictorial works have expressed the phenomenon of torture, both real and imaginary, increasing our knowledge, sometimes formulating convictions, and often denouncing this practice.
