The Kingdom of Alexander the Great: ancient Macedonia.
Exhibition at the Louvre Museum, from 13 October 2011 to 16 January 2012.
This exhibition traces the history of ancient Macedonia from the 15th century B.C. up until the imperial Roman period.
The exhibition's thematic approach underlines several aspects of Macedonian civilization, including daily life, artistic production and the birth of the Alexander legend in Antiquity.
Archaeological excavations carried out on the site of Macedonian necropolises have notably revealed the splendour and refinement of the courtly art of an elite close to kings. These discoveries confirm the thriving commercial trade between Macedonia and the other regions of the ancient Greek world.
