The districts of the East of Paris
The districts of the east of Paris remain historically poor, working class areas which nevertheless have proved inspirational to artists. Despite the difficult living conditions, dances were overwhelmingly popular with the workers. Since the post-war years, these arrondissements have undergone a constant evolution depending on the different policies of the City of Paris. The most striking example is the quarter of La Villette, which has become a real testing ground for the experiments of contemporary architects.
