Nice, Matisse Museum
The Villa des Arènes is home to the Matisse Museum, which was created in 1963 following an initial
donation by Henri Matisse in 1953 to the city of Nice. Donations from his beneficiaries were later added. The
government’s contributions complete the collection. All of the techniques used by Henri Matisse and the
various creative periods are showcased.
