Raphaël Gaillarde (b. 1940)
The contemporary photographer Raphaël Gaillarde’s work focuses mainly on reporting for magazines. He has
a special talent for capturing and creating an original rendering of the atmosphere of emblematic buildings,
such as the Châteaux of Versailles and Fontainebleau. With a magnificent sense of lighting and staging, he
explores the shadows of official sites through an intimate look and warm atmosphere. Raphaël Gaillarde is
also a photographer of the Grand Palais. A real glass palace, the Grand Palais combines strength and fragility
in its glass and metal architecture. The alchemy taking place between the building’s architecture and the light
is particularly conducive to the constant metamorphoses that occur during the numerous events held in the
museum. Raphaël Gaillarde has been able to capture the alchemy of the building as an exhibit space or as a
party space, from an artistic and aesthetic view.
