Claude Parent
Claude Parent

Born in 1923 in Neuilly-sur-Seine where he is still living today, Claude Parent quickly rebelled against the traditional approach to architectural teaching. Parent's work evolved under the influence of various contacts: his meeting with André Bloc marked a significant stage in his career. During that period he joined the Espace group, an artists' association founded by Bloc in 1951 where he kept company with artists Fernand Léger, Sonia Delaunay and Vasarely in particular. He later made friends with Paul Virilio with whom he founded the "Architecture Principe" group and magazine and also developed the concept of the "oblique function", a theory put forward in 1964. He then continued with his work on structures and their shell by contributing to the design of several nuclear reactors in the early 1980s in collaboration with several other architects and EDF engineers. The drawings he produced for these projects are amongst some of the best examples of Parent's poetic imaginative world.
