The East
Ever since the first exchanges with the West between the 16th and the 19th centuries, the East has retained all its power of fascination. Many artists discovered the picturesque charms of North Africa and the Middle East by accompanying diplomats or by travelling on their own.
The heat of the East seems to have impregnated these artists with the lasting fragrances which breathe from the travellers' fabulous, tales and stories and mysterious adventures.
