Saintes, Musée de l'Echevinage
The Musée de l'Echevinage housed in the former "Maison de l'Echevinage", the seat of communal power under the Ancien Régime , inherited the works of an earlier Museum of Fine Arts, founded in 1864 thanks to a bequest made by Count Louis-Nicolas Lemercier. Whist works by artists from the Saintonge and Bordeaux schools of art predominate, the Museum also contains several paintings by Jean Geoffroy, an artist who specialised in illustrating scenes of childhood.
