"Napoleon in Saint Helena. The victory of memory".
"Napoleon in Saint Helena. The victory of memory".
Exhibition at the Musée de l'Armée from 6 April to 24 July 2016

18 June 1815, the Battle of Waterloo marked the end of the Empire. Napoleon, defeated, went into exile. Fearing a repeat of Napoléon’s Hundred Days Campaign, England chose the Emperor's final residence: Saint Helena, a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Napoleon arrived there with his most faithful companions and settled in Longwood House. The exhibition focuses on the extraordinary restoration of the furniture at Longwood House, and offers a unique opportunity to see the furnishings that surrounded the Emperor. In Saint Helena, Napoleon began his final campaign for posterity. He turned Saint Helena into a place where legend was written even before his death on 5 May 1821
