The Battle of Wagram
The Battle of Wagram

The Battle of Wagram was fought around the Isle of Lobau on the Danube on 5 and 6 July 1809. This significant victory for Napoleon I's French forces, the Grande Armée, over Archduke Charles' Austrian army brought the War of the Fifth Coalition to an end after England and Austria had defied the Empire by invading Bavaria on 9 April 1809.
Following the defeat at the Battle of Znaim, Austria was forced to sign the Treaty of Schönbrunn and Napoleon married the Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria.
