René Lalique (1860-1945)
Rene Lalique (1860-1945), "Art Nouveau" master of glass and jewellery, took his inspiration from Japanese art, combining flora, fauna, fantasy and symbolism into delicate products that resembled exquisite sculptures. His modern, unique jewellery was characterized by the originality of the subjects, but also by the innovative use of materials never before used in this field, including glass, ivory, or leather, all of it often set with semi-precious stones. He also invented a new technique, the "Lalique Satin", which gave glass an opaline translucence.
