Napoléon III's Study and Empress Eugénie's Lacquerware Room
In summer, while Empress Eugénie played host to poets and writers in the Salon des Laques (Lacquerware Room), Napoléon III entertained the leaders of the world's great powers in his private study. Napoléon III's Study and Empress Eugénie's Lacquerware Room have been restored to their pre-1870 condition. Visitors can admire a book-case once belonging to Napoléon I, and one of four huge mahogany desks produced for the emperor's various holiday retreats. The room is completed by a set of armchairs and a daybed, where Napoléon III, who suffered from kidney stones, often lay down to work.
