Illustrated works of literature
Illustrated works of literature

Engraving and lithography were techniques used by artists to illustrate great works of literature. They associate visual images and famous historical texts such as the Bible, ancient tales, works by Rabelais, Shakespeare, La Fontaine and Cervantes or use their talents at the service of contemporary writers. It was in the 19th century particularly that the links between artists and writers led to the collaborative production of precious works of art. These original works where literature was enhanced by fine art are a visual feast for the reader.
