Nude photographs
The first nude photographs were seen as pornographic images and were reserved for private use.
Around 1850 nude photography became "publishable" as it was regarded as artistic and the models' poses followed the regulations in force for pictorial representations by the book: fixed poses and intrusive decor. It was not until Pictorialism developed in the early 20th century that the nude broke away from academism which advocated a plainer and more suggested depiction of the body rather than an accurate representation of reality. At the beginning of the 1920s, a generation of photographers challenged this tradition and developed a fresh vision of a new body: divided, fragmented, deformed, a concrete expression of the modernity of this new medium.
